Hepatocirrhosis

TIPS operation is a new means of hepatocirrhosis complication therapy in Russia and the CIS countries. This is a unique technique along with Shipovskiy's professional experience of 35 years.
What complaints a patient with hepatocirrhosis might have
Biliousness of skin integument and sclera
Abdominal dropsy (ascites) due to the liquid accumulating in abdominal space
Emaciation
External ventricle hemorrhage
Vomiting sickness, decreased appetite, fatigue
Subcutaneous abdominal veins (Gorgon's head)
Umbilical hernia
Patient's immediate actions at the onset of the symptoms:
  • Immediate consultation by a common surgeon or hepatologist
  • Blood analysis (markers of hepatitis, ALT, AST, bilirubin, alkalotic phosphatase, prothrombin consumption index, etc.)
  • Focused abdominal sonogram (Computer tomography)
  • Sonography (computer tomography) of portal system
  • Esophago-gastroduodenoscopy
  • Liver fiber scanning
Prognosis for hepatocirrhosis
Life-long specialist treatment, medical supervision and a special diet are obligatory for patients with hepatocirrhosis. 80% of the patients with hepatocirrhosis live their live with no surgical interference, but 20% of the patients face life-threatening complications, e.g. abdominal dropsy and (or) stomach hemorrhage which needs to be surgically handled! Even the first excessive bleeding may be fatal for the patient. Unfortunately, patients with abdominal dropsy that is not treated with emictories die within two years due to protein loss.
Hepatocirrhosis treatment
There is only one effective treatment of hepatocirrhosis – liver transplantation surgery.
Therapy for hepatocirrhosis related complications
If hepatocirrhosis is treated by liver transplantation only, then there is a number of therapeutical means of treating hepatocirrhosis related complications. They differ in efficiency, affordability, technical capabilities of medical treatment facilities, etc.
  • Pharmacological (to reduce elevated blood pressure in liver veins)
  • Placement of the Blackmore tube in esophagus (for temporary hemostasis)
  • Ligation of varices during endoscopic examination
  • Abdomen nyxis and egestion of ascitic fluid (abdominal paracentesis)
  • Surgical abdominal operation on blood vessels under anesthesia
  • TIPS operation
TIPS is the most effective operation among the afore mentioned therapeutical means of treating hepatocirrhosis related complications since it eliminates the causes of the complications – elevated blood pressure in the liver veins (portal hypertension).
Hepatocirrhosis is dangerous due to its complications the most serious of which is hemorrhage. At present, obesity, fatty liver disease and virus hepatitis are the key instigators of hepatocirrhosis. At that there are no direct symptoms. Patients with hepatocirrhosis may complain of vomiting sickness, abdominal pains and skin biliousness. It is necessary either to get ultrasound investigated or to take endoscopic examination. In case hepatocirrhosis is in critical condition, it is crucial to cope with its life-threatening complications. Introduced far back in the past and performed heretofore by Professor Shipovskiy, TIPS operation is a unique and proven solution.
